    • Diesel fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber at high pressure, through an atomizing nozzle, mixing with the hot, high-pressure air. The heat of the compressed air ignites the fuel mixture and burns very rapidly.
    • The single overhead camshaft (SOHC), which opens and closes the intake and exhaust valves, is located over the cylinders, directly operating the valvetrain. This construction is highly efficient, with fewer moving parts than an OHV design. A single overhead camshaft also makes multiple intake and exhaust valves practical.
